Imamia Medics Kashmir (IMK) successfully organized an event—the Breast Cancer Awareness Programme 2025, on 6th April 2025 (Sunday) at Iqbal Khomeini R.A Hall, Mohallah Syed Afzal, Sheribhat, Alamgari Bazar, Srinagar, dedicated exclusively to empowering women with knowledge and hope to raise awareness and promote early detection, because as our slogan reminds us: "Early Detection Saves Lives – Together, We Can Make a Difference!"
This event is more than just a programme; it’s a movement rooted in compassion and community spirit, reflecting the moral duty we share to care for one another. As the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, "The best of people are those who are most beneficial to others." At IMK, we are committed to serving humanity by equipping women with the tools to protect their health and well-being. Breast cancer remains a significant challenge, but with early detection and timely intervention, we can save lives and reduce suffering.
The session was led by Dr. Shabnam Bashir, a renowned oncologist and Founder Director of CBCCD, with Fellowship in Breast and Colorectal Surgery from Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai. Dr. Shabnam Bashir delivered an insightful and impactful presentation, highlighting the importance of early detection and the role of effective screening modalities in combating breast cancer. Her talk underscored awareness as the first and most crucial step toward prevention and early intervention, urging attendees to prioritize their health and make informed choices. She also stressed the significance of adopting a healthy lifestyle —including a balanced diet, regular physical activity, weight management, and avoidance of harmful substances — as essential factors in reducing the risk of breast cancer and other chronic illnesses.
The event was coordinated by Dr. Atiqa, with Dr. Masooma Rizvi (Head of the Department of Gynecology, GMC Srinagar) and Dr. Syeda Sabahat (Gynecologist) as the Guests of Honour. Dr. Masooma Rizvi presented a Certificate of Appreciation to Dr. Shabnam Bashir in recognition of her valuable contribution to the cause.
The program was exclusively for females and was attended primarily by young women and medical professionals, who greatly benefitted from the informative session. Information brochures in English and Urdu language regarding the same were given to the participants after the conclusion of the program.
This initiative is a part of Imamia Medics Kashmir’s ongoing commitment to promoting preventive healthcare and raising awareness on critical health issues within the community.
